In July 2016, reports surfaced online that Google is working on a new series of Android smartwatches codenamed ‘Angelfish’ and ‘Swordfish’. The latest leak by the Twitter user @evleaks confirms this rumor, saying they are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2017.

The forte of the new Google Android watches would be ‘Google Assistant”. They would be running Android Wear 2.0. Among the two, Google smartwatch with Angelfish as codename will be the larger device, featuring a 43.5mm diameter screen, 14mm thick and support LTE, GPS and heart rate tracking. There will be three buttons as seen in LG smartwatch Urbane LTE.
The smaller variant Swordfish will be similar to Pebble Time Round and will feature a single button on the right-side of the device’s body. The diameter is expected to be 42mm and the thickness may come around 10.6mm. It may not come with LTE, GPS, or heart-rate monitor supports. The renders appeared showed the smartwatches to feature curved bezel.
Google Angelfish smartwatch is expected to be launched in matte Dark Grey color, while the Swordfish may come in Silver, Titanium, and Rose gold color variants. There is still no information about the branding these watches would carry. It would be interesting to see how Google’s first smartwatch turns out to be. Unlike the Pixel phones, we hope Google prices its smartwatches reasonably.
