A third-party online retailer is selling an improved version of Xiaomi Mi 5 named “Extreme” in China. As the official Xiaomiwebsite has not listed the new smartphone, it’s unsure if it’s an official release.

Considering its specifications, the new Mi 5 Extreme comes with some serious improvements over its predecessor. It features a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor, Adreno 530 GPU, and 3GB RAM. The CPU is overclocked by 19% to 2.15GHz from 1.8GHz, GPU runs at 624MHz instead of 510MHz, and RAM is overclocked to 1866MHz from 1333MHz. However, the battery remains the same at 3000mAh. The display of Mi 5 Extreme measures 5.15-inch with full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) resolution, made with curved 3D Ceramic glass. There are three versions available for internal storage — 32/64/128GB. The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

In terms of camera, it features a 16MP Sony IMX298 camera sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), 6P lens and LED flash. The smartphone supports 4K video recording. It also sports a 4-megapixel front camera for video calling and both cameras will feature a f/2.0 aperture. For connectivity, Mi 5 Extreme supports USB Type-C port, 4G with VoLTE, WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and UFS 2.0 storage. Priced at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs. 20,000), this Mi 5 Extreme is available in four colours – White, Black, Gold, and Purple.

In India, the Mi 5 recently received a permanent price cut of Rs. 2,000. The device is currently being sold at Rs. 22,999.
